7. Oaksterdam University, California
Inspired by a visit to Amsterdam’s Cannabis College, activist Richard Lee created Oaksterdam University in 2007. Between 2007 and 2012, the school grew out of one Bay Area classroom to four campuses in two different states.
But after getting raided by the IRS, the DEA and US Marshals Service in April 2012, the school consolidated operations to its Oakland campus. The school curriculum is designed to cover all aspects of the medical marijuana industry. Students have the choice of learning via a 14-week semester or attending shorter 4-day (8 hours/day) seminars. These cover everything from best horticultural practices for marijuana to courses on legal rights.
Till date, the school has graduated over 20,000 students and with the acceptance that pot is gaining, it hopes to educate many more.
