Cytomegalovirus Cytomegalovirus (CMV) can very well be the most common STD in the United States and the world, with about four out of every five Americans said to be a carrier of this STD. However, half of all the infected people got the virus through means other than sexual intercourse, and they got it before puberty. People who have this STD show no signs of it, but in cases where there are signs, they are too mild to cause any alarm. The only time this STD should be of any concern is when the infected individual is pregnant or has a condition that has greatly compromised his or her immune system. In these cases the carrier can experience serious fatigue, muscle aches, diarrhoea, seizures, blindness and it can even land them in a coma. 5. Donovanosis Donovanosis is caused by klebsiella granulomatis bacillus, and it is an STD that affects an individual’s genital area or mucous membranes, the anus, and the groin. This disease destroys the skin surrounding the infected area, and it can cause ulcers. Although it is possible for some people to live with this disease without serious side effects, most people suffering from Donovanosis will develop lumps and red sores, and then start to bleed. The sore that develops from this disease spreads even faster and farther with the help of other bacteria, and it can get very painful. If left untreated it can lead to further complications. Chlamydia Chlamydia is one of the most common STDs known in the developed countries today, and it can affect both men and women adversely.
