4. Batista and Roman Reigns booed after winning the Royal Rumble in 2014 and then 2015
The last two Royal Rumbles have had a less than favorable response for the winners. The Royal Rumble is the beginning of the “Road to WrestleMania,” and the winner is granted a chance to fight the champion at WrestleMania. Because of this stipulation, the last two winners have been jeered mercilessly by fans in attendance. In 2014, the return of Batista to the roster saw him participate in the Rumble and win by eliminating Roman Reigns, who at the time was becoming more and more popular while a member of The Shield. In a back and forth affair, Batista got the better of Reigns and eliminated him. The following year saw Reigns in the same position as the previous year, only he stood before a very partisan Philadelphia crowd that booed his win after eliminating Rusev. Most believe that this had to do with the fact that, in both years, Daniel Bryan was the fans’ choice.
