4. Baise-Moi
This highly controversial film may still be banned in multiple countries due to its highly erotic yet violent nature, but it still goes to show what can happen when two women have, simply put, reached their breaking point. After having been sexually assaulted, put down and witnessed murder, Manu and Nadine decide to take their lives into their own hands and go on a murderous killing spree – where they’re not afraid to get physical. Needless to say, this film is not an easy one to watch, and even shows a graphic sexual assault scene, but it one that’s worth watching if you care to see what all the fuss is about.
3. Shortbus
Shortbus may not have appeared in mainstream media, but there’s a good reason for it. In this drama, directed by John Cameron Mitchell, the topic of sexuality and what it says about the human condition in all aspects acts as the foundation of the film – and there is a lot of fornication present as a result. While it may not be considered adult entertainment in the traditional sense of the term, Rolling Stone magazine described it as “hard-core with a soft-heart” due to its balance between the actual act and the ability to speak freely about troubles of the most intimate nature. To paint you a picture of what you can expect out of the film, the opening scene shows three separate rooms: one with a man expertly positioned so he can perform fellatio on himself, another where there’s a couple doing it in whatever way comes to find and, lastly, students performing humiliating dominatrix. If that wasn’t enough, this movie has been critically acclaimed and, while it may not be safe for work, has not caused any controversy despite its explicit nature.
