Adele signs £90m contract with Sony Music – British singer Adele has penned what may be the biggest recording contract in history as she signed with Sony Music. Adele had previously been with British record label XL records since she began her career, and following the contract’s expiration, signed with Sony Music in a mega deal worth a reported £90m (N44.1bn). The deal had reportedly been completed since last year, and was brokered by Adele’s manager, Jonathan Watkins.
The figure is not particularly shocking considering that Adele is one of the best-selling artistes of history, having sold over 19 million copies of her last album, 25, and making over £35m in sales. The deal was reportedly arranged through Sony’s Columbia Records, and “gives Sony the rights to release her future music exclusively around the world.”
Adele also wins awards as well as she sells albums, recently winning five awards — including the top artiste award — at the 2016 Billboard Music Awards. A source at Sony Music told The Sun on Monday: “We’ve secured Adele, who’s without doubt the biggest music star in a generation. This is massive.”
