10. Giovani Dos Santos – LA Galaxy – $4.25 million
Once seen as the successor to Ronaldinho at Barcelona, Giovanni Dos Santos couldn’t be any farther away. Things didn’t work out at Barca, or at Tottenham and things weren’t exactly brilliant at Villarreal. Instead of the Camp Nou or White Heart Lane, Dos Santos has found his home at the StubHub Center. This will be Dos Santos’ first full season in the MLS having joined LA Galaxy in July and he’s started the new season pretty well. He’s scored 6 goals and 3 assists in 11 games. Not bad for someone who has to compete with the likes of Robbie Keane and Gyasi Zardes for goals. Unlike most designated players, Dos Santos is in his prime at 27 years old and could probably still do a decent job in Europe.
9. Clint Dempsey – Seattle Sounders – $4.605 million
Another former Premier League player. Clint Dempsey returned home a lot sooner than I expected him to. First he was at Fulham, and then at Tottenham before deciding in 2013, at the age of 30 to come back home to the US and join Seattle Sounders. 78 games, 34 goals and 17 assists later and Dempsey is still as important to the Sounders as ever, especially with the departure for Nigerian Obafemi Martins. Dempsey doesn’t seem to be slowing down, even at the age of 33 and will be around for a few more years.
