4. Nicolas Cage and Sean Penn
Nicolas Cage and Sean Penn broke into the industry together. They did Fast Times at Ridgemont High and Racing with the Moon together, and they were best buds all around town, but then they grew apart. It wasn’t until Cage started doing major blockbuster films that either of the two made a comment about the other though, and it was Penn who drew first blood. After Cage released consecutive action films in the late 90s, Penn said, “Nic Cage is no longer an actor. He’s more like a performer.” Now, these words were wrongly twisted into Penn suggesting that Cage was a sellout, but still, the words were critical no matter what way you look at them. Cage responded to Penn later, saying, “He’s paying a little too much attention to my career, I think. I’m not thinking too much about what he’s doing, you know… He said that I wasn’t an actor and I can’t agree with that.”
