September 17th was the 69th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards to honour the best of U.S. primetime television programming from June 1, 2016, until May 31, 2017, as chosen by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. The 2017 Emmy Awards event was held at the Microsoft Theater, Los Angeles, California with Stephen Colbert as the host. The 69th edition of Emmy Awards had everything. The 2017 Emmy Awards ceremony vacillated between political commentary, celebration of the variety of Peak TV, and lots more.

The freshman HBO science fiction western drama “Westworld” and NBC sketch comedy “Saturday Night Live” were the most nominated programmes for the night with 22 nominations each. “The Handmaid’s Tale” became the first web television series to win the award for Outstanding Drama Series. In addition, it also won its first Emmys not only in Outstanding Drama Series but for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series – Hulu, Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series – Hulu, and Outstanding Television Movie Netflix.
The night also saw Donald Glover become the first African-American to win Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series, and Aziz Ansari and Lena Waithe winning Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series. Lena became the first African American woman to win that award. Julia Louis-Dreyfus also won her sixth Emmy Awards consecutively, in the same role, in the same category – a record.
