The entertainment industry is all about smoke and mirrors, so it’s no real surprise that some of the entertainment industry’s most visible faces tend to misrepresent their own realities as well. And on some level the viewing audience does understand that what we see on screen or what actors, singers, and entertainers like to show us are not necessarily accurate representations of reality. There are some particular things that certain celebs seem to lie about all the time. Or at least, they lie about it until they absolutely can’t anymore. Some of those fibs are exactly the kind of lies we expect to hear from celebrities, about their ages, about their weights, about their heights and things like that, but some of their misdirections are totally odd things that you not only wouldn’t even imagine possible, but that most people couldn’t imagine even bothering to lie about.
Some of these lies are biggies, some of them are little white lies, and some of them are even lies that these particular celebs actually seem to believe is the truth. But regardless of how long they’ve been propagating these lies or how badly they want these lies to be true, ultimately their falsity has been revealed in the end. So which famous faces kept these certain lies going until they absolutely couldn’t anymore? And who is even still trying to sell something they know isn’t true, and that the whole world now knows isn’t true too? Read on to find out about some celebrity long term lies.
1 Jennifer Lopez Lying About Her Age
In one of the weirder longterm celebrity lies on this list we have superstar Jennifer Lopez, who claimed that her birth year was 1970 for most of her career, but then was accidentally revealed to be 1969 when she was arrested with Sean “P. Diddy” Combs in connection to a club shooting in 1999.
Although Lopez was quickly exonerated and had nothing to do with what happened, the paperwork involved with the incident was made public and revealed that she had been fibbing about her age for quite a while.
But what’s kind of baffling about the lie is, why would she even bother to lie in the first place? Shaving off one single year from your age isn’t going to make you seem all that much younger, and once Lopez had reached the heights of her career it’s not like being 29 instead of 28 would have had a significant impact on her success anyway. And now that Lopez is nearing 50 years of age but still looks like she’s in her 30s at most, the desire to make herself seem younger than she is by subtracting one year on paper seems to be exceptionally absurd and unnecessary.
2 Terrence Howard Lying About His Education
It’s not that unusual for someone to exaggerate their accomplishments or make them sound better than they really are, but it is rare that someone would exaggerate their abilities on the level that actor Terrence Howard has. Howard attended a year of college and studied chemical engineering before leaving school to pursue acting, but Howard claims that he actually has a doctorate in chemical engineering. During an interview with Jimmy Kimmel, Terrence announced that he had recently completed his Ph.D in chemical engineering at South Carolina State University, but South Carolina State doesn’t even offer advanced degrees in chemical engineering.
Howard had once given the commencement speech at a SCSU graduation ceremony, and was presented with an honorary doctorate of Humane Letters, but aside from that Terrence had never even attended the school. So why exactly would an actor decide to lie about something so absurd and easy to disprove?
Well, Howard was a part of a business venture that involved growing diamonds, and many people speculated that he may have lied to make his business seem more legitimate. However, the Oscar nominee wasn’t great at selling this lie, because he apparently made some mistakes in really basic terminology when explaining the venture.
