The governor of Abia State, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has directed the immediate promotion of all workers at various levels in the state.
According to him, it was to increase the productivity of workers in Abia state just days before the 2023 gubernatorial election.
The governor issued the directive during an interactive session with the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees, NULGE, at the Ochendo International Conference Centre in Umahia.

He stated that under his administration over 5000 workers were employed despite the advice of some people to lay off workers, stating that he understands the implications of laying off workers, thus his decision to employ more workers.
He insisted that he is always concerned about the welfare of workers, noting that heaven is only where a perfect system exists, and expressed hope that the next PDP administration will pick up where he left off.
- He reminded the Abia workers that regardless of his loss in the senatorial race there is more to do together and he has regrets because God has helped him through his administration and urged them to vote for PP candidates in the elections.
