In sad news, Nigerian musician Chris Mba has passed away after a long battle with heart issues.
Mba, who rose to fame in the 1980s with hits like ‘Funky Situation’, ‘Baby Don’t Cry’, ‘Making My Way’ and ‘Love Everlasting’, died on Wednesday at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital.
He was a bundle of talent who localized pop music by adding local instruments into his music to give the African feel.
The news was shared by Michael Odiong, the General Manager of Premier Music which Mba was signed to, in a post on his Instagram account on Thursday.
He expressed the label’s sadness at the loss of one of its artistes, saying, “Chris Mba was a bundle of talent who localized pop music by adding local instruments into his music to give the African feel. He made waves in the late 80s up to the 90s where he released hits like “Baby Don’t Cry”, “Money” etc.”
Odiong went on to offer his condolences to Mba’s family, saying, “We condole with the family and pray God give them the fortitude to bear the loss.”
Mba’s death is a loss to the Nigerian music industry, and his legacy as a talented musician who brought a unique African flavor to pop music will be remembered.
