Top 10 Nigerian songs by superstars with vague and empty lyrics

There’s been a lot of Nigerian songs that were HITs in recent times, but the lyrics to this songs totally didn’t make sense. It appears that the days of well written songs might be coming to an end real soon and we the music fans will e left with lyrically void songs.

Unarguably one of the biggest songs of 2014 and the track that shot the YBNL soldier to limelight. Shoki is a song that themes around a dance style, but the song in itself lacks concrete lyrics.

And most of the words churned out by the artist doesn’t make a whole lot of sense if looked upon from the literary angle.

Wizkid – In My Bed

Wizkid might be one of the biggest acts on the African planet right now, it doesn’t mean he doesn’t have a song that carries no basic theme and the lyrics totally off road and don’t even correspond with each other. We don’t know whether to categorize it as a shoutout song or a song that talks about wanting a lady in one’s bed.

Wizkid goes from talking about how bad he wants a particular girl’s body in his bed to instantly saying phrases like ‘Fashola Eleniyan, Wizzy Eleniyan …. ….’. Although the song was a commercial success, it was lyrically vague.Wizkid has been chastised for releasing songs that are more of freestyle and have blamed it on why the Star Boy hasn’t carted awards at various international events where several of his peers have smiled home with plaques.

Kcee – Pull Over ft. Wizkid

Five star music artist released his hit single titled ‘Pull Over’ featuring Wizkidand while understanding that the song was a hit on the streets and in the clubs, the song lacked content.

The song totally lacked a basic theme and the lyrics when put together without the instrumental doesn’t make a whole lot of sense, and Wizkid’s presence on the song didn’t do a lot of help to the lyrics he dropped on the song as well.

Timaya – Gbagam ft Deettii & Phyno

Timaya can easily pass off as the King of Nigerian dancehall and most dancehall songs don’t really carry a lot of great lyrics, but rather repition that doesn’t make a whole sense if they get separated from the instrumental. All dance with no message makes fans feel empty after dancing their energy out.

Timaya needs to understand his songs are for people with brains that thinks, who as much as want to dance want to listen to lyrics they understand, not lyrics only himself understands.

Timaya – Ukwu

The song Ukwu is one of Timaya’s biggest tracks and hits in recent times, but sadly, the song doesn’t carry a lot of meaning as there is no solid lyrics in the song besides the chant of ‘Ukwu’.

DJ Xclusive ft. Timaya – Pangolo

This song is actually a freestyle, but it made DJ Xclusive’s album so its understandable how it makes the list. While, the song is a feel good groovy song that makes one to instantly feel like dancing.

The song actually lacks lyrics that have a true meaning. At some point in the song Timaya said ‘We dey give them Pangolo’ and one stops to think about that line for second, but i’m not sure any of Timaya’s fan can make sense of that line.

CDQ – Indomie Remix ft. Davido & Olamide

Masterkraft does a good job when it comes to producing instrumentals that can break into the market, but the artists that work with him sometimes get engrossed in how good the beat is and refuse to write ear-worthy lyrics to it. CDQ’s Indomie which was a huge commercial success is one of those songs that is totally and lyrically empty.

Looking at some of the lines from a normal angle will make someone almost puke and Davido even did worse with his lines on the song.

Masterkraft – Turn Down For What ft. Phyno

Hit producer, Masterkraft called on indigenous rapper, Phyno to help bring justice to a song titled ‘Turn Down For What’ and Phyno fails to deliver on the song as there’s way too much repitition in the song.

This is another song with just a few lines severally repeated in the most annoying way, it ended up a hit though.

Kcee – Limpopo Limpopo till date is one of Kcee’s biggest songs and infact blew him into the limelight, but on a stern look at this song, its lyrics are totally distateful and have no meaning when penned down on paper. We sometimes wonder, if our artists get to write their songs down before singing them. Terry G – Free Madness 1-3

Terry G is one of the most relevant artists in Nigeria when it comes to his relationship with the streets, but the songs that he is most known for is ‘Free Madness’ but this song like every other song on this list lacks lyrical content.
