7. Barry Bonds’ Steroid Use
Barry Bonds is perhaps one of the most famous athletes who landed in the spotlight for drug use on the playing field. He spoke out and came clean about using a variety of performance-enhancing drugs during his baseball career, starting as early as 1998. Major League Baseball did not banish the drugs until about four years later. Bonds was on a very intense and intricate doping regimen, which included high-end drugs and some that were able to slip past the testing procedure of baseball officials. Many believe that thanks to these steroids, Bonds was able to smash the record for most home-runs in a single season. He hit 73 HR’s in 2001.
