3. Hedy Lamarr
Hedy Lamarr is an actress who left a marriage to a Nazi arms dealer, then somehow secured a seven-year, three thousand dollar contract with MGM. She is also rumored to be the first Hollywood actress to simulate a female orgasm on screen. However, fans of cinema might be interested to know that because of an invention that Lamarr patented, we now have GPS, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Back in 1942, Lamarr and her business partner George Antheil were given a patent for a secret communication system. They had intended it for radio-guided torpedoes, however the invention stayed in the US Navy files for years before being used for the conveniences we all have today.
