11. MMLP has made an obscene amount of money.
It sold 1.76 million copies in its first week, 3.65 million copies in four weeks, 7.9 million copies by the end of 2000, and over 11 million copies by May 2015. Oh, and that’s just in the U.S. To date, the album has sold an estimated 32 millions copies worldwide. It’s the biggest-selling hip-hop album of all time by most metrics, the fastest-selling studio album by any solo artist in American music history, and one of the biggest selling albums of all time worldwide overall. And the album has also performed well on download platforms (such as iTunes) and streaming platforms (such as Spotify) that weren’t even in existence for the May 2000 release. A rough estimate suggests that the album has grossed around half a billion dollars.
