Worst decisions Nintendo has ever made: Those of us of a certain age who grew up in the right era matured with the Nintendo corporation. The Nintendo Entertainment System and video game Super Mario Bros. was a mainstay in homes all around the world following the release of that bundle in the 1980s. Titles such as The Legend of Zelda, Tecmo Bowl, Metroid and so many memorable games held our attentions for hours upon hours, and those were followed up by inventions such as the Super Nintendo Entertainment System and the Nintendo Wii, both of which helped revolutionize the gaming world in their own ways.

Nintendo has obviously gotten plenty right over the decades. There are many good reasons why even the company’s name is one that is familiar even in households where there are no video games. Those who are nostalgic for what they see as better days of old still cling to their NES and Nintendo 64 consoles, and some even modify systems such as an Xbox 360 so that they can enjoy older games via the current generation products. The days of Nintendo being the king of the video game world disappeared some time ago, but it would be inaccurate to suggest that the company is now a thing of the past.
With that said, Nintendo has also been guilty of a fair share of miscues over the years. Those mistakes have been well documented by analysts and by others within the video game community, and some of those errors are commonly listed among the worst decisions in the history of the industry. It is also worth noting that those mistakes have cost the company significant amounts of money, and they also played a role in why Nintendo is where the company sits among its competition. Nintendo gets an “A” for effort in some of these cases, but failures are nevertheless failures.
10. Marketing Only To Kids
Fair or not, a popular opinion among many casual gamers who pick up a console controller now and again is that the Nintendo brand is one associated with more “kiddie” games that do not appeal to older players. Where are the badass titles that have helped make Playstation and Xbox what those brands have become? They are on other consoles, that’s where they are. Perception is reality teaches the old adage, and Nintendo not doing enough to brand the company’s products as being equal to those put out by Sony and Microsoft has been a massive mistake that has made it irrelevant to a large portion of potential consumers.
