11. Rashard Mendenhall
After he made some controversial Tweets, football player Rashard Mendenhall, was fired from the endorsement deal he had with Champion Sportswear, which is owned by Hanesbrands, Inc. Apparently, when Osama bin Laden was killed, Mendenhall Tweeted, “what kind of person celebrates death? It’s amazing how people can HATE a man they have never even heard speak. We’ve only heard one side.” Apparently, people took this to mean that he wasn’t being patriotic. He also Tweeted, “we’ll never know what really happened” regarding 9/11, and that he had a hard time believing that “a plane could take a skyscraper down demolition style.” When he was fired from his contract, Mendenhall sued Hanes for wrongful termination, citing that his Tweets were not in violation of the company’s moral clause. The cause was settled in January 2013, before a court ruling.
