Cristiano Ronaldo has won the Ballon d’Or for a fourth time after seeing off rival Lionel Messi. The Real Madrid and Portugal superstar, who led his country to success at Euro 2016, creeps one closer to Messi’s record of five titles.
Ronaldo, 31, currently engulfed in a tax evasion storm, also guided Los Blancos to their 11th Champions League triumph last season and takes the top individual honour in the game from the Barcelona star, who was runner-up.
The Portuguese, who could not attend the awards in Paris because he is in Yokohama, Japan, for Los Blancos’ Club World Cup semi-final against Club America: “I never imagined winning this trophy four times. I’m really happy and fulfilled.
