CS Sfaxien – Tunisia – 1523 points CS Sfaxien was founded in 1928 with the name Club Tunisien. They have been part of the First Division in Tunisia since 1947. They have 8 national league titles, the most recent was won in 2013. They also have 4 national cup wins, the last of which was in 2009. Internationally they have done very well in recent years. They won the CAF Confederation Cup in 2007, 2008 and 2013. While also successful in the CAF Super Cup they have not won it yet, ending in second place in 2008. 2009 and 2014. Despite their success they are currently only the 3rd best football club in Tunisia! 9. Wydad Casablanca – Morocco – 1525 points Wydad Casablanca was founded in 1939. They have a total of 18 national league titles, the most recent in 2015. They finished in second place another 13 times. While they have won the national cup 9 times the last time was all the way back in 2001. Internationally they won the CAF Champions League in 1992 and finished as the runner-up in 2011. 8. El Zamalek – Egypt – 1536 points El Zamalek was founded in 1911 with the name Qasr El-Neel club. After several name changes the current name was chosen in 1952. Though over a hundred years old the club has never been relegated. They have a total of 26 national titles (12 in the modern Premier League system). They have won the national cup a total of 25 times, including the last cup! Internationally they have also done quite well with 5 CAF Champions League titles, finishing second in 2016, and having won a further 3 CAF Super Cups. Still they are only the second most successful football club in Egypt. 7. Al Hilal Omdurman – Sudan – 1554 points Al Hilal (for short) was founded in 1930. With a total of 26 national titles including the last season and 7 national cups they are a force to be reckoned with in Sudanese Football. Internationally they have not done as well. Winning it in 1989 and finishing as the runner-up in 2007. In 2014 they won the CECAFA Clubs Cup. 5. Etoile du Sahel – Tunisia – 1573 points Located in Sousse in the Sahel region of Tunisia Etoile du Sahel was founded in 1925. With 10 national titles, including last season, and another 10 national cups they are one of the most successful clubs in Tunisia. Internationally they have also done quite well. Winning the CAF Confederation Cup in 2006 and 2015, the African Cup Winners’ Cup in 1997 and 2003, and the CAF Cup in 1995 and 1999. They have also done very well in the African Super Cup, winning it twice in 1998 and 2008. They finished in second place in 2004, 2007 and most recently in 2016. Overall excellent results! 4. Vita Club – Congo DR – 1581 points The Association Sportive Vita Club, its full name, was founded in 1935 and is based in the Stade des Martyrs in Kinshasa. With a capacity of 80,000 it is one of the largest stadiums in Africa. In total they have won the national title 13 times, most recently in 2015. They have also won the national cup 9 times. This makes Vita Club one of the most successful Congolese football clubs. Internationally they have only won the African Cup of Champions in 1973, but they did finish second as recently as 2014. 3. Esperance de Tunis – Tunisia – 1585 points Founded in 1919, Espérance Sportive de Tunis is based in Tunis. With a total in 26 national league titles and a further 15 national cups they are arguably the most successful team in Tunisia. Internationally they have also done very well. They have won the CAF Champions league twice (1994 and 2011). TP Mazembe has been extremely successful in international football in the last few years. Arguably their biggest success was ending in second place in the 2010 FIFA Club World Cup, losing to Internazionale in the final match. TP Mazembe is certainly one of the best football clubs in Africa! 1. Al Ahly – Egypt – 1594 points – The Best Football Club in Africa Al Ahly was founded in 1907 and has never been relegated in its more than a century-long existence. They are considered the most successful Egyptian football club with 38 national titles and 35 national cups. Internationally they have also done very well with a record 8 CAF Champions League titles (most recently in 2012 and 2013). They are also the record holders in the African Cup Winners’ Cup with 4 wins and the CAF Super Cup with another 6 wins (last wins in 2013 and 2014).
