Al-Merreikh is one of the oldest football clubs in Africa with a founding date in 1908. They have won the national title 16 times and finished as the runners-up another 24 times. With their 14 national cups they are a real threat to Al Hilal who are located on the other side of the Al-Ardha street in Omdurman.

Internationally they have done well in the CAF Confederations Cup. Winning it in 1989 and finishing as the runner-up in 2007. In 2014 they won the CECAFA Clubs Cup.
