Arsenal legendary coach, Arsene Wenger has snubbed the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Nicolas Anelka and Edu, who he bought during his time as the club’s manager to pick Nigerian star, Nwankwo Kanu as his best January signing.
Kanu spent five years in North London and was part of the Gunners’ legendary Invincibles side, as he lifted two Premier League titles and two FA Cups with Arsenal.
The former Nigeria ace joined the Gunners from Inter Milan for £4.15 million in 1999 and with 17 goals to his name in his first full season.
When Arsene Wenger was asked about his best piece of business in the January window, the Frenchman told beIN Sports: “What a difficult question. Over 20 years… maybe Kanu.
“In the middle of the season, that had a big impact and was a huge player.”
Wenger went ahead to disclosed that he believes that transfers shouldn’t be restricted to winter and summer windows, and would prefer clubs to be allowed to do business throughout the season.
He said: “I think it is like a race in a marathon where you change the shoes half way,
It is not right, when once you have started the season, you have to finish the season with the same players
“Or you keep it open the whole season like it was when I arrived in England.
“They have chosen a rule that is not right.”
