President Buhari has moved out of his official residence in the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, with 17 days left in his term.
He has relocated to the Glass House, a temporary residence for outgoing presidents since 1991, to make way for maintenance work to be carried out in preparation for President-elect Bola Tinubu to move in.
A senior State House source revealed that the 32-year-old edifice is being coated with white paint, with some sections being cleaned and fumigated. The renovation will not involve the provision of new furniture as the incoming President will determine whether to change the existing ones or not.
Aisha Buhari, the First Lady, revealed on her Instagram handle that the Glass House is now the residence of the first family.
She showed incoming First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu around the State House official residence, stating that the Glass House should remain in use as the transition base for outgoing presidents and their spouses. She said, “I think it should remain so as a norm of the institution and of the house.”
According to reports, most of Buhari’s aides have been moving their personal belongings out of the Presidential Villa to create room for Tinubu’s personal aides and key Presidency officials.
The State House Management had already begun renovating and refurbishing sections of the Presidential Villa last week.
