The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Nigeria recently reported the arrest of two businessmen, Onoh Ebere and Christian Ifeanyi Ogbuji, who were caught attempting to traffic cocaine into the country.
The suspects were arrested on May 10th at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja after arriving from Uganda via Addis Ababa. In custody, the men were placed under observation and both ultimately excreted the drugs they had ingested.
According to Femi Babafemi, the spokesman of the agency,“After days in the excretion room, Ebere Onoh excreted a total of 100 pellets weighing 2.137kgs while Christian Ifeanyi Ogbuji expelled 93 pellets hidden in his stomach with a gross weight of 1.986kgs.”
Babafemi also announced a series of additional drug busts, including raids of two notorious drug joints in Kano where 160 suspects were arrested with different quantities of illicit substances, the arrest of two men along the Kano-Maiduguri road with 5,000 pills of Tramadol 200mg, and the seizure of 65,200 tablets of tramadol and exol-5 from Adamu Nagati and Ali Nasiru.
In Abuja, 25 suspects were arrested in raids across Tora Bora, Gwarinpa village, 3rd avenue in Gwarinpa, Karamo, Garki market, Sabongari Bwari and New Kucigoro IDP camp.
The NDLEA also thwarted another attempt to smuggle 24kg of cannabis indica concealed in imported used cars from Canada. Two clearing agents linked to the container, Chief G.O. Njokwu and Mr. Christopher Obialor, were arrested in collaboration with men of the Nigerian Customs Service.
