Nigeria has been thrown into mourning following the sudden death of former Super Eagles defender, Mike Onyemachara.
The talented footballer reportedly passed away on Thursday, May 4, 2023, in his 3-bedroom apartment in Ajegunle, Lagos State.
Onyemachara was a member of the silver medal-winning Flying Eagles team to Saudi Arabia in 1989. He played most of his club football with First Bank of Lagos and was known for his skilful defending.
According to reports, Onyemachara’s wife left for work and their kids went to school, leaving him in good health. However, when they returned, they found that the food served to him on the table was untouched, and he had passed away.
The circumstances surrounding his death are still unclear as of press time, but some of his close teammates revealed that he had been complaining of back pains in recent times.
Onyemachara’s death has come as a shock to many Nigerians, who have taken to social media to express their condolences to his family and friends.
Onyemachara’s death is a big loss to the Nigerian football community, and he will be remembered for his contributions to the sport in the country.
