Napoli president, Aurelio De Laurentiis, has quashed any notion of selling star striker Victor Osimhen in the upcoming summer transfer window, despite the interest from some of Europe’s biggest football clubs.
Osimhen was instrumental in helping the Azzurri secure their first Serie A title in 33 years, scoring the crucial equaliser in a 1-1 draw against Udinese on Thursday.
The Nigerian international has been in fine form this season, and his 22 goals put him on course to become the first African player to win the Italian Serie A Golden Boot.
Speaking to Rai, De Laurentiis insisted that Osimhen would remain at the club for next season, along with other key players in the squad. “I will not sell Victor Osimhen this summer — no way,” he said. “I’ve already activated and triggered the option to extend Luciano Spalletti’s contract for next season.”
The Napoli president also confirmed that he had put plans in place to extend the contract of head coach Luciano Spalletti, who has been a key figure in the team’s success this season.
Osimhen’s impressive form has attracted the attention of several top European clubs, including Bayern Munich, PSG, Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal. However, De Laurentiis remains resolute in his decision to keep the Nigerian forward at Napoli.
With Osimhen breaking records left, right and center, Napoli fans will be delighted to hear that their talisman will remain at the club for the foreseeable future.
