A student of the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, Ogun State identified as Samuel Adegoke has reportedly committed suicide on Monday after losing his school fees and that of his friend to betting.
It was gathered that the deceased who was a National Diploma II student of Electrical Electronic Engineering, reportedly used his school fee to play an online betting on Friday but lost.
Not satisfied with the result, he decided to swindle his friend who shared a room with him by getting his password and using his fee to bet.
However, after he lost the game, the student committed suicide by drinking some chemical substance when his colleagues were preparing for their first-semester exam.
Reports have that the school had warned that no student would be allowed to take an exam without completing their registration.
Confirming the incident, the Deputy Registrar, Public Relations of the school, Sola Abiala revealed that after the deceased took the dangerous substance, he was rushed to the school clinic and was later referred to a specialist hospital outside the school in Ilaro. Sadly, he didn’t make it.
“He died on Monday morning while the exam was about to start”. Abiala told Punch on the phone.
He said it was detected at the specialist hospital that the late student took a chemical substance.
