Manchester United manager, Erik ten Hag, has responded to the recent criticisms aimed at captain Bruno Fernandes, following the midfielder’s stunning stoppage-time goal in a Premier League match against Fulham over the weekend.
Fernandes played a pivotal role in Manchester United’s 1-0 victory over Fulham, which came on the heels of consecutive 3-0 defeats against Manchester City and Newcastle United.
In recent weeks, Fernandes had faced significant criticism, with some suggesting he should be stripped of the captain’s armband.
Manchester United legend Roy Keane expressed his desire to see Fernandes lose the captaincy, and Gary Neville questioned whether Fernandes was fit for a leadership role at Old Trafford.
Erik ten Hag addressed these criticisms in an interview with TNT Sports, stating,
“I don’t understand it. So everyone has their mistakes and no-one is perfect. But he is doing a lot of things very well. He shows every time as a captain that he is an example. As you saw today, how he is working, how he is pressing, and then in the end, he scores the goal. So he’s massively important for us.”
