5. Langholmen
Langholmen in located in Stockholm, Sweden. The island of Langholmen used to be a women’s penal colony in the 1700s. These days, the island is the site of a chic hotel called–you guessed it–Langholmen. The rooms are fairly small but feature a comfy chair for reading, and cabinets that are decorated with old newspaper clippings. This is a stylish choice that is a nod to the history of the area. The facility features both a hotel and hostel and is an ideal location for large parties and weddings. You can even view artwork that depicts the fact that Langholmen used to be a women’s prison.
