Although, maybe it’s not so hard to imagine after all (cough, Hollywood). Unfortunately, the disease has spread like wild-fire and the masses, too, are now equally obsessed with the image in the mirror.

However, digital alteration was much tamer compared to the extent of today’s photoshopping: they were merely smoothing skin and removing spots and wrinkles – not changing one’s entire body shape. Thank God for Photoshop today then, because Hollywood just wouldn’t be as beautiful without it (just kidding).

An anonymous photoshopper who works in the fashion industry said that 100% of its pictures are photoshopped in some way, stating that a picture would not ever be released without some form of photoshopping. This person said that “Fankensteining,” where a different head is put on a body because the model had a funny look on her face or an arm is put on a different body because it is probably a better looking arm, is fairly common. Also common is photoshopping models to look less bony. Nevertheless, some celebrities are more prone to being photoshopped because they don’t fit Hollywood’s beauty standards (note: most of them don’t). Without further ado, here are some of the most likely candidates. Let’s take a moment and feel a bit sorry for them.

15. Kourtney Kardashian We can’t all be that surprised to see a Kardashian has made the list. The media likes to take advantage of those forever popular, money-making “how to lose the baby weight” type articles. Seeing as Kourtney Kardashian has given birth to three children already, she has made it onto these types of covers, but always drastically thinner. Some magazines went so far as to claim they had an exclusive with her regarding her weight loss, which they did not. As E Magazine pointed out, her miracle weight loss secret was photoshop. Kardashian got extra real on Twitter regarding Ok Magazine’s screw-up, writing: “One of those weeklies got it wrong again…they didn’t have an exclusive with me. And I gained 40 pounds while pregs, not 26…But thanks!” She threw the magazine under the bus again, saying that they had definitely photoshopped her to make her look like she had lost all of her baby weight, when she hadn’t. Look at that folks, a Kardashian has done it right this time.

14. Kate Winslet The ever-classy Winslet was involved in an infamous photoshopping scandal back in 2003, when GQ stretched her out to supermodel proportions (Winslet said herself that they reduced the size of her thighs by at least a third). However, the magazine failed to obscure her reflection in the mirror behind her, which left a much more normal looking body in the mirror. Winslet was outraged over the fact that they had altered the photos. Even as recently as of 2013, US Vogue photoshopped Winslet to make her look at least ten years younger. Proud of her natural body and wanting to age naturally (and promote a healthy self-image to others), Winslet has since signed a no-photoshop clause for her recent deal with L’Oreal.

You can be Daisy Duke all you want, but don’t think that will stop you from getting photoshopped.Jessica has been in the business a long time, so it’s not surprising that she has a lot of experience with being digitally augmented. While she has managed to somehow escape a major photoshop fail, unlike other unlucky celebrities, she has still received digital alteration. Her waist was trimmed down for Elle Magazine and in a separate photo for Elle , where she is posing with her pregnant belly and husband, readers speculated that Elle heavily photoshopped her legs as well. Aren’t pregnant women supposed to be untouchable? It was speculated that People Magazine weirdly elongated her fingers on the cover where she introduces her new baby. But, we all know Jessica Simpson hardly needs any extra help in the looks department.

Dear, Demi: you cracked us all up when you insisted that W Magazine never retouched those photos of you, where a chunk of your hip is clearly missing. The fact that you act angry about us calling you out, as if we are all idiots, is even funnier. And to think that you have the audacity to call the rest of us idiots. Apparently, Demi hasn’t learned to act her age. Maybe Ashton’schildish antics rubbed off on her a little too much. Even if Demi aggressively refuted the accusations regarding W Magazine , there are still other cases of her being photoshopped, including in one campaign where her jawline was enhanced and wrinkles entirely erased to make her look like she was a 20-something (you know, unless we really are just idiots and Demi is just that beautiful. Who knows?). Either way, Demi has caused a lot of controversy on the photoshop front, officially earning her the title of ‘Demi the Photoshop Scandal Queen’.

11. Sarah Jessica Parker Sarah Jessica is an interesting photoshop candidate. Although Mr. Big might have found her attractive, apparently Hollywood does not. While her body is not the photoshop target, unlike a lot of celebrities, it is actually the poor girl’s face that is. Somehow that seems so much worse. The extent of the photoshopping is often so drastic that she appears almost unrecognizable on a lot of covers ( Harper’s Bazar and Marie Claire ). While she is definitely one of the most photoshopped celebrities of the 21 st century, it is also safe to say that she is probably the most drastically digitally altered one as well.

10. Keira Knightley Keira has grown tired of her body being constantly manipulated by the paparazzi and the movie industry. She had adopted a feminist response amid the King Arthur movie poster controversy in 2009, where her breasts where edited to look much larger. To protest against photoshopping and the idea of making women’s bodies appear different then they really are, she agreed to pose nude for The Interview , if they would not digitally alter the photos in any way. Speaking out about photoshop, she said: “…it does feel important to say it really doesn’t matter what shape you are.” And, again, she said: “I think women’s bodies are a battleground and photography is partly to blame.”

9. Kristen Stewart Vampires are especially prone to being photoshopped, especially with all of that pale, sickly skin that Hollywood hates so much. Bella Kristen Stewart is no exception. She has had an arm missing ( Glamour ), a mole added to her face ( EVA ) and her nose altered and hair color changed by Vogue , where she looked like but a fragment of herself. Then there was that time, on the cover of W , where her face was almost entirely re vamp ed (no pun intended), to the point that she looked basically unrecognizable. Kristen Stewart is a good example of photoshop being used unnecessarily, just for the sake of it.

Not even pop singers “pop” in the right places. Like that one time Rolling Stone made Katy Perry’s boobs bigger for the cover of their magazine, although they obviously didn’t stop there. They trimmed down her thighs, smoothed her skin and removed all of the moles from her neck. Not to list all of the ways this woman fails to measure up to Hollywood’s standards, but Maxim also photoshopped her legs before they allowed the magazine to hit the stands. Katy Perry also manages to give her Internet audience a lot to work with, meme-wise. Regardless, there is no question she’s what teenage dreams are made of.

7. Jennifer Lawrence We have to admire Jennifer Lawrence’s more lighthearted approach to being photoshopped, which is rather rare (see the angry Demi Moore, above, for more). Joking with Access Hollywood , she said: “That doesn’t look like me at all. I love Photoshop more than anything in the world. Of course it’s Photoshop, people don’t look like that.” Sadly, she’s often made to look thinner by the media, even though she is a normal size, at 139 pounds for her 5’9 height (yes, celeb body statistic websites are very much a real thing). This poor woman can’t even escape her fingers being made slimmer. Good job, Flare Magazine , for that one. In the words of Jennifer Lawrence: “What are you going to do? Be hungry every single day to make other people happy? That’s just dumb.” We can’t agree more.

Kate Upton is no such stranger – in fact, just type in the name “Kate Upton” into your Google search bar and find that what invariably follows is “Kate Upton’s photoshopped crotch”. Nevertheless, Kate Upton, although made up of the stuff every guy dreams of, has had a boob reduction, a piece cut out of her arm, and more. She gives us a lot to laugh about with these epic photoshop fails.

If Mariah Carey was ever calling for the “emancipation of Mimi” like she did back in 2005, she certainly is now. The industry is forever making Mariah Carey look at least 20 pounds lighter than she actually is, especially on basically all of her album covers. One has to wonder what that does to a woman’s self-esteem. It can’t be good. Waist cinched in, legs and stomach slimmed down, boobs made bigger, stretch marks removed, jawline brought in, skin bronzed, you name it, it has been done to Mariah Carey. Somehow Memories of an Imperfect Angel , rings a little too clear now.

4. Britney Spears Britney has been in the business a long time, so it naturally makes sense that she is on this list of the most photoshopped celebrities of the 21 st century. Name just about any body part and she has probably had it digitally perfected, from her nose ( Women’s Magazine ) to a smaller waist and hips ( Candie’s ). But, we have to admire Britney for allowing retouched photos to be released, to the scrutiny that is the Internet, back in 2010 alongside the retouched ones.

Known for her curves, a body-type that is mostly opposed to that of the Hollywood ideal (although, times are changing), this one probably comes as no surprise. Beyonce has had her skin both lightened and darkened, hips taken in – you get the idea. Even Beyonce herself doesn’t think she’s good enough for Hollywood. She is often making headlines for photoshopping her Instagram pictures so that she has one of those thigh gaps which are supposedly very “in” these days, and a slimmer waist. Regardless, many of her loyal fans came to her rescue after untouched photos of her L’Oreal advert surfaced. The photos were, funnily enough, immediately taken down and Beyonce never commented on them. Beyonce’s publicist once even requested that unflattering photos of her be taken down on Buzzfeed . Regardless, her loyal fans still support her imperfections, one writing on Twitter that: “If you don’t think Beyonce is still gorgeous even in her untouched photos then you been drankin’ you been drankin.’ Well, we can’t exactly argue there, can we?

Even though it’s basically Kim K’s day job to look good, Hollywood seems to think that she could still do a little better in the looks department, because the industry still insists on constantly photoshopping her whenever it can. When an untouched photo for Complex Magazine was released, her PR Team Kim said: “So what? I have a little cellulite. What curvy girl doesn’t? I’m proud of my body and my curves, and this picture coming out is probably helpful for everyone to see that just because I am on the cover of a magazine doesn’t mean I’m perfect.” Well, isn’t that nice. Except that Kim is still often caught photoshopping her own Instagram pictures. But then again, between Hollywood’s ridiculous beauty standards and the billion dollar advertising agency, who’s really to blame here?

1. Miley Cyrus Possibly the most photoshopped celebrity of the 21 st century, but not for reasons you may think. We’re talking meme-type photoshopping. Miley definitely offers up all of the Internet trolls plenty to work with – meme-worthy content, that is. From wrecking balls, to scandalous VMA appearances with Robin Thicke, to twerking, giant fingers, giant tongues, chicken bottoms and more, Miley never fails to provide entertainment for the rest of the Internet. When you’re quoted as saying: “You don’t have to whore yourself to be famous… But it definitely helps,” you’re just never going to be able to work yourself out of that meme any time soon. You just can’t make this stuff up.
