A Safer Alternative
Despite the options described above, it is now possible to have a safe paternity test while pregnant via a new type of blood test released in recent years. This test requires a sample of blood from the pregnant woman and a sample of blood from the potential father. The woman’s blood contains fragments of the fetus’ DNA, which can then be compared to the father’s for an accurate determination of paternity.
Many of these tests can be ordered via the Internet, eliminating the step of going to the doctor’s office, though there are indications that these tests may be inaccurate or even fraudulent in some cases. It is therefore important to find a reputable place to get this type of paternity test done, as the consequences of an inaccurate reading are fairly great. These at-home tests are also not generally accepted as proof of paternity in a court of law, meaning they may be a waste of time and money for many parents.
