Dele Alake, a former Lagos commissioner of information and strategy, has denied being appointed as the spokesperson for President Bola Tinubu.
This comes in response to an announcement made by Femi Fani-Kayode, the former minister of aviation, on his Twitter account, where he claimed that Alake had been appointed as the president’s spokesperson.
However, Alake refuted this claim in an interview with TheCable, stating that the news of his appointment was false. He expressed surprise that some news outlets failed to recognize the fake and unsigned stories.
Alake, who previously served as the director of strategic communication for the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign, has no involvement in the position mentioned.
“It was fake news. I’m always surprised when news people failed to recognise fake unsigned stories,” Alake said.
During Tinubu’s tenure as governor of Lagos between 1999 and 2007, Alake held the position of commissioner for information and strategy.
In 2014, he returned to national politics after a brief break from public roles and was appointed as the director of media and communication for the Buhari campaign organization.
Alake’s career in journalism began at Concord Press publishers, where he worked as a writer and editor.
After a year, he transitioned into a columnist role at the National Concord and served in that capacity until 1989. In the same year, he was appointed editor of Sunday Concord, a position he held until 1995, before becoming the editor of the National Concord.
