A former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, informed an Abuja High Court that she has not been in Nigeria since May 2015 due to cancer treatment.
This information was disclosed in a writ of summons against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF).
Alison-Madueke is seeking damages of N100 billion “for the false, injurious, malicious, and libelous publications.”
She claimed that the EFCC and AGF defamed her by alleging her involvement in corruption.
According to Alison-Madueke, she was diagnosed with “the most aggressive form of breast cancer,” known as “Triple Negative Cancer,” towards the end of President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration in 2015.
On May 22, 2015, she departed for England to undergo a critical course of treatment, which included two operations, eight months of intensive chemotherapy, and five weeks of radiotherapy.
As stated in the court papers, she has remained in England ever since, receiving medical care and treatment.
