Erik ten Hag, the manager of Manchester United, expressed criticism over the “very harsh” red card given to Marcus Rashford during their 4-3 loss to FC Copenhagen in the Champions League.
Ten Hag also raised concerns about two of the goals awarded to the hosts.Rasmus Hojlund scored two goals within the first 30 minutes to give Manchester United the lead.
However, the game took a different turn after Rashford was shown a straight red card for a foul on Elias Jelert in the 42nd minute. The score was 2-2 at halftime after Mohamed Elyounoussi and Diogo Goncalves scored for Copenhagen.
Bruno Fernandes briefly put Manchester United back in front with a penalty, but goals from Lukas Lerager and Roony Bardghi secured a 4-3 victory for Copenhagen.
“The red card changed everything. It became a different game, but then you concede two goals that should never have counted,” Ten Hag commented during an interview with TNT Sports.
“It was a very harsh decision; I’m sure he was going for the ball. I thought the review was already over, and then he went to the screen. So, I think the referee wasn’t sure either.”
