How Russian jet was shot down by Turkey – A Russian military jet has been shot down by the Turkish military and a pilot reportedly missing after violating the nation’s airspace. According to reports in some quarters, the jet was shot down by Turkish F16s, as the pilots who were given repeated prior warning, violated Turkey airspace.

A video footage has showed how the jet crashed, while separate footage showed two pilots parachuting to safety within hostile Syrian territory but their fate remains unknown.
However, the Russian defence ministry in a statement, denied Turkey’s claims, saying that the jet had been over Syria the whole time and that Moscow could prove it.
It revealed that it was their Su-24 fighter that was shot down.
A Russian military official also denied Turkey’s claims it brought the plane down with two F16s on regular border patrols. According to him, the bomber was shot down by artillery fire from the ground.
But Vladimir Putin’s spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, made no further comment, saying: “It is just impossible to say something without having full information”,Dailystar.co.uk reports
Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan have been briefed by the head of the military about the incident, while Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu ordered consultations with NATO, the United Nations and related countries.
As Turkey is a member of NATO (an alliance including the UK and America), it’s feared a clash with Russia could plunge the world into war.
There are however reports that both pilots escaped the jet before it crashed and one of them was captured by Turkmen rebels, who are searching for the other.
Footage on Turkish TV, has shown a captured pilot being dragged from beneath a tree as onlookers shout “Allahu Akbar”.
But there are also reports that two Russian military helicopters have been utilized in a bid to save the missing pilots.
