7. Mt. Bromo, Indonesia
A part of the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park in East Java, Mount Bromo is one of the most popular volcanoes in South East Asia. Named after the Hindu god Brahma, it has immense cultural importance as well. The locality is inhabited by Tenggerese people who, during the festival of Yadnya Kasada, ascend the volcano and throw vegetables and fruit, sometimes livestock, into the caldera to appease the gods. Watching the sunrise from the mountain is a popular activity. There are horseback riding and trekking opportunities. It is an active volcano, and visits are sometimes limited.
