Nepa
If you live in Nigeria, then there is no day that goes by without calling that name. Either to praise them or mostly to abuse , insult or rain curses on them.
Nepa (National Electric Power Authority)was an organization that govern the use of electricity in Nigeria but was privatized as The Power Holding Company of Nigeria PHCN. They are living by their name as they really hold power from the masses.
In Nigeria, ironically, this trend lives on even in today’s reformed Nigerian electricity sector and subsequent demise of NEPA/PHCN
For example when nepa brings the light , people suddenly yell ‘Up Nepa!’ meaning that finally electricity had been restored to neighborhoods. Its like a default setting for every Nigerian, to the extent that people jubilate. But when the light goes off you hear insults , curses on them. lol very funny i guess. I must confess i am very guilty of this.
We are all guilty of this , do you agree ? #askanigerian
