9. The Great Wall of China
The Great Wall stretches about 5,500 miles from east and west of China. It winds up and down across grasslands, deserts, plateaus and mountains. The wall was built by the natives as a form of protection against their enemies more than 2000 years ago . Its old age architecture makes it one of the world’s amazing attractions.
One of the world’s most iconic man-made structures, the Great Wall of China draws thousands of tourists, especially backpackers, each year. There are many sections you can visit these days. If you are going to take a day trip, I recommend you to visit the Mutianyu section since it can take almost half the day. But if you are going to do a long hiking trip, consider visiting Jinshanling, Simatai and Gubeikou. The Jinshanling is situated 2.5 hours from Beijing and it’s a fabulous place for taking photos. It stretches about 6 miles and has 5 passes, 2 beacon towers, and 67 watchtowers.
I can only imagine how hard it was to build the Great Wall of China. When I walked along the Wall, I thought about the ways the workmen transported the stones and about the techniques that were used to build the Wall. It’s really a mystery and it’s difficult to believe that 2000 years ago people could build such a majestic wall. See Also: 10 places every girl wants to be kissed – Guys you need to know this!
