9. David Cheriton
David Cheriton is a professor at Stanford University. But, when he’s not teaching classes, he is investing in various tech companies. He made his most notable investment in 1998, when he gave $100,000 to two of his students for their startup company. That startup company was Google. He made over a billion dollars from that investment alone, but he still refuses to buy a nice car or a large house. He lives in a house that he owned for 30 years, claiming that he doesn’t understand why people always need to buy new things. His current net worth is $2.8 billion.
