Seyi Shay speaks on beef with Tiwa Savage – Competition and rivalry is nothing unheard of in the entertainment industry and Nigerian celebrities are fast catching up on this. Many insiders say rivalry often called “beef” is good for publicity and media buzz, as long as artistes keep it violent-free. Though understandable, this logic is debatable.

Nigerian music stars Tiwa Savage and Seyi Shay have been in the news over time for what many have termed a misunderstanding between both parties and even though neither of them has come out to admit this, from all indications things aren’t exactly smooth between them.
On Sunday, March 20, r Seyi Shay was interviewed on Rubbin’ Minds on Channels TV by Ebuka Obi-Uchendu and she spoke on her music and more, as well as addressing popular comparisons between her and Mavin Records superstars Tiwa Savage.
When asked what her relationship with the Eminado singer is like Seyi alluded to the fact that they aren’t close. She also stated that she does not really have friends within the Nigerian music industry.
She said: “I don’t really know [Tiwa]. To be honest with you like I said I don’t really know her personally, I don’t have many friends in the music industry. They are my colleagues and we say hello, we say goodbye. “We invite each other to different functions that are happening, that’s how it is with the female industry.”
In a recent interview with Punch, the Right Now singer increased the speculations as she asked that same questions on the nature of their current relationship should be sent to Tiwa Savage for her response.
She said: “Please I would love it if you call her now and ask her this same question if there is any beef between Tiwa Savage and Seyi Shay.”
On her Instagram posts which have been seen by many as innuendos aimed at the Eminado singer, Seyi said she didn’t target anyone in her posts.
She also added that for a creative mind to flourish it needs to rid itself of all forms of competition.
She said: “There is a quote that says that a competitive mind is not a creative mind and it is something I believe in. Girls compete against one another a lot and it is too much. Everybody competes but I think females do it a lot for no reason at all. If you are too busy competing, you will not have time to be creative. The post on Instagram was not directed to anybody, I was just minding my business but people took it the wrong way. I am aware that some people thought I was directing it at Tiwa Savage but I was not. After I had posted it, I told myself that I hope people would not think it was directed at anybody but I didn’t care that much; so I just left it.”
Recall that Tiwa Savage was the guest on Urban FM in April 2016 and when she was asked about her thoughts on Seyi Shay being made a fellow Pepsi ambassador, the Mavin singera implied that she didn’t have any idea Seyi had been made an ambassador.
Tiwa said in the interview: “See I knew you were going to drop this in anyway, everybody has heard! What? Am I happy for Davido? Of course. I love him. He’s absolutely fantastic.”
Reacting to this in the interview with Punch, Seyi said:
I read what she said about me but to be honest, when I post comments online, I am very sarcastic. People should be very careful when they listen to me speak and give answers because you will never know if I am serious or not. I play with Nigerians so much and that is because I think they are so gullible and I think it is funny. I did not feel any way about the comment she made about me. They ignore me, I ignore them.”
On current happenings in her career, she said she feels really excited about having made a song with singer Niniola which she believes is going to be a hit song.
She said: “I am very excited at the moment because I just recorded a very amazing song. I am happy because I have made a new song and I have a very good feeling about it. The song is with me and Niniola, I love working with women because I believe in girl-power. I just released an album called Seyi or Shay and I am going around Africa to promote the album. While I am promoting my album, I am also recording new songs especially when I meet amazing artistes from other African countries.”
Born and raised in the United Kingdom, singer Deborah Oluwaseyi Joshua returned to Nigeria to pursue her music career and she has been positively reviewed by many since then.
In June 2015, she signed to Island Universal Records. She went on to release her debut studio album in November 2015, it was titled Seyi or Shay.
