Besides just owning property, Trump develops and sells luxurious houses in Florida and California. Some units he even lends. If you took Donald Trump for a typical celebrity homeowner, forget it. Most of his time he spends living on top of his Trump Tower in Manhattan. He uses all those mansions only to do business, and make money. Some of these properties were bought to be demolished to make space for new projects, but were saved from the ever-growing ambition of the boorish billionaire by locals and building tenants. Take a peek at all that lavish real estate! 12. Mar-a-Lago, Palm Beach, Florida Mar-a-Lago combines both home and work for Donald Trump. In case you missed it, he gave his speech from there after winning 3 states’ primaries. The lavish property that is also a private club and spa is estimated at $200 million, and brings profit of around $15 million a year. Boasting 126 rooms on 17 acres, Mar-a-Lago sits oceanfront framed with beautiful Palm Beach landscapes and impeccable lawns. Inside, however, there is an abundance of marble, carved stone, and gold leaf. Decorations include shining chandeliers, oriental rugs, and 16th century Flemish tapestries styled by designer Joseph Urban. It’s amazing that Trump snatched the estate for just $10 million, which included furnishings, in 1985. After the death of its owner in 1973, the property was left to the US government to become a presidential retreat. But it was transferred back to her children, who sold it for peanuts. Well, her will might just become reality, should Trump win this presidential election. 11. The Plaza Hotel, New York City The Plaza Hotel is not just another Trump property. It is a historical and cultural landmark that appeared in stuff from the novel The Great Gatsby to Princess Diaries to Home Alone 2 . Bought by Trump in 1988 for $407.5 million, the hotel was not an economic purchase, however. According to the billionaire, he regarded it as a masterpiece the likes of Mona Lisa. With its costly renovations and a growing debt, the plaza’s separate units were sold as condominiums to cover those costs. The massive debt was forgiven, though, and it was purchased by CDL Hotels International and Saudi prince Al-Waleed bin Talal in 1995. Later, The Plaza changed owners a few times over. Its present owners Sahara India Pariwar wanted to auction the hotel in spring of this year, but the event was cancelled amidst the rumors of some Saudi royal willing to pay $352 million for Trump’s Mona Lisa. 10. Trump Park Avenue, New York City Trump Park Avenue penthouse is another unlikely dwelling that the GOP presidential nominee used to own. A stylish contemporary 6,200-square-foot apartment sits on the 24th floor of the 502 Park Ave. With only 5 bedrooms and 7 and a half bathrooms, the property first entered the market three years ago with a hefty price tag of $35 million, but finally sold for $21 million in 2015. It seems as though the smaller house market doesn’t favor The Donald. Aside from the white interiors, wooden floors, and marbled baths, the penthouse features floor-to-ceiling windows, 10-foot ceilings, windowed chef’s kitchen with a butler’s pantry, and two walk-in closets. Although the property could make Trump a landlord (with $80,000 rent per month), the real estate mogul decided to settle. Can you imagine living in a property with Donald Trump as your landlord? 9. Trump Parc, New York City Well, if you ever wondered what it was like to live under Trump’s landlordship, here is a story for ya. Back in 1981, Trump bought two buildings overlooking Central Park, hoping to demolish them and build a shiny new skyscraper. There was one problem. The tenants that sued Trump for letting the buildings fall in disrepair. After some suing and back and forth with the tenants, Trump scrapped his skyscraper plans and converted the buildings into condos. Today their net value is $88 million. And he owns 11,750 square feet of condos; 14,963 square feet of retail; and 13,108 square feet of garage space there. Trump’s son Eric lives in the Trump Parc, so if you want the man as your president and landlord, be also ready to be a good neighbor to his family. 8. Manhattan Apartment Mansion, New York Occupying the top three floors of the Trump Tower, this mega penthouse decorated in 24K gold and marble looks rather like a museum of rococo decor than a living space. Gilded ornaments cover every inch of its interior completed with marble Roman columns and crystal chandeliers. Designed by the famous Angelo Donghia, the house is surprisingly oversaturated with opulence and luxury, well, like most of Trump’s homes. The property is estimated at around $100 million, and features such minute details as a gold and diamond front door, an original Renoir painting, ‘La loge’, and loads of Louis XIV furnishings. It also boasts some views. Looking out from a window, Trump can see not only Central Park and five boroughs of New York but also the neighboring New Jersey. Fun fact, you may have seen the Trump Tower in The Dark Knight Rises , only there it housed Wayne Enterprises. 7. Albemarle Estate, Charlottesville, Virginia Ever the real estate aficionado, Trump bought Albermarle for just $6.5 million in 2012. To take advantage of the 26,000 square feet of space in this neo-Georgian manor and its terrific location in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, The Donald decided to turn the property into a bed & breakfast. With a vineyard and bustling greenery all around, the manor offers deluxe estate and pool house rooms for booking. Meaning there are suites in the main house and the pool house. There is also a separate 700-square-foot private log Cabin that includes two king beds, four piece bathroom, large seating area, and a private back porch. The rates vary between $309 and $509 per night in the now Trump Vineyard Estates, and the guests are welcome to experience the winery. 6. Rodeo Drive Colonial, Beverly Hills, California In 2008, Donald Trump tried his hand in Beverly Hills real estate. He bought a house on Rodeo Drive for the average price of $10,350,100, and later sneakily unloaded it for 800,000 or so less. Though it didn’t turn out to be a successful deal, the house later got a really fancy update with the Greek Revival-style sprawling across 14,991 square feet. Now on the market for $29,995 million, the house looks incredibly lavish, but probably too restrained for Trump’s taste. Its white interiors are modern and tastefully decorated, and outdoor greenery beautifully manicured. There is one notably ‘Trumptastic’ feature in the foyer, though: an all marble floor and staircase. 5. Le Château des Palmiers, Plum Bay Beach, St. Maarten He described it as “one of the greatest mansions in the world”, and we can totally see why. The $19.7 million property stands tip-toeing the Caribbean Sea, and drowns in lavish greenery carefully managed around the estate. Occupying five acres on Plum Bay Beach, the villas boast 9 bedrooms, an air-conditioned fitness center, a tennis court, and, as the listing suggests, a personal chef, butler, and “daily laundress.” Wait, do they come together with the property? You can rent the chateau for the minimum of 5 days, although the estate’s website doesn’t say how much it will cost. It, apparently, consists of two villas. Offered are an Oceanside and a Gardenside Villa. The former has 5 bedrooms, 6 full- and 2 half-bathrooms, and a sunshine room. The latter, though, has only four bedrooms and 4 and a half baths. 4. Maison de L’Amitie, Palm Beach, Florida Donald Trump didn’t hold on to this estate for too long. Being a businessman, he bought it for a ‘mere’ $41.4 million and spent another three on light renovations. The 60,000-square-foot oceanfront abode belonged to him for just four years from 2004 till 2008, when he sold it to the Russian tycoon Dmitri Rybolovlev for a staggering $95 million, and that’s with mold issues. Yikes! Aside from this small nuance, the house reportedly has a massive pool and, Trump’s favorite, 24-karat gold fixtures. There is also a fountain in the driveway. The luxurious villa may have a traditional architectural style, but it’s modernized on the inside. There were rumors, though, that the fancy house was going to meet an unfortunate fate, as Rybolovlev planned to tear it down. But Trump didn’t seem to mind. 3. 1985 Apartment, Trump Tower, New York This blast from the past may seem opulent still, but, boy, if it isn’t easier on the eyes than what Donald and Melania call a home these days. With its fair share of gold and luxurious natural stone accents, this Art Deco extravaganza is part 80s party animal’s den, part conservatory. The 7-bedroom home furnished with Donghia Furniture, Stark carpets, and Brunschwig & Fils-upholstered satin chairs looks overly decorated but at least contemporary. The foyer is characterized by the curving gold staircase that connects the apartment’s various levels, but the golden accents are fairly restrained throughout the interior. The abundance of greenery and play of light and shadow make it look more interesting, although there’s definitely more color than many could handle in decor. 2. Indian Harbor Estate, Greenwich, Connecticut This 20,000-square-foot 47-room mansion was the first one Trump ever bought. Back when he lost it in a divorce with his wife Ivana, it was sold for $15 million. Today, the property is estimated at a whopping $54 million, and it’s not hard to see why. The white waterfront building has undergone massive renovations with a few fancy additions like a guest house with luxury suites and a giant indoor pool. Built in 1939, it features a three-story rotunda and a double staircase that welcomes residents to the spacious retreat enhanced with glazed screened porches, regal main rooms, entertainment and outdoor areas fully equipped for receiving guests. Aside from staff apartments, manicured lawns, and a tennis court, the house has a nice little grove to the right, offering the luxurious estate some privacy. 1. Tudor Revival Home in Jamaica Estates, New York Jamaica Estates is where it all began. It’s where Donald’s taste for real estate was cultivated and honed by Fred Trump, who developed the neighborhood of Queens into a secluded well-off island for the rich. The 23-room Tudor Revival estate built of red brick and topped with a white portico colonnade is Trump’s second childhood home. The reserved, luxurious, and safe part of Queens, as he described it, is characterized by lush greenery and forest-like environment. This is probably where he got his taste for houses with no less than a few dozens of rooms, columns, and general architectural grandeur. Besides, it was fronted by a Cadillac and a Rolls-Royce. Way to shape one’s formative years. Taking after his father, it’s hard not to note that Donald did develop his own taste, for better or worse. Almost all of these houses are real estate business decisions. Trump waits until you’re desperate to sell, and then turns the thing into a prospering business or sells it for more.
