Rivers State’s All Progressives Congress (APC) has distanced itself from the visit of President-elect Bola Tinubu to the state on Wednesday.
Tinubu is expected to commission a flyover at Rumuokwuta and Rumuola junction in the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area during his two-day visit.
In a statement released on Tuesday, APC Publicity Secretary Darlington Nwauju said the party had nothing to do with Tinubu’s visit, calling on the Governor to stop divisive politics.
“To be clear, the APC as a party is not part of the visit, and has nothing to do with it,” said Nwauju. “We, therefore, urge Governor Wike to play less divisive politics and exercise restraint in planting seeds of discord amongst opposition political parties.”
Nwauju also accused Governor Wike of creating a false narrative about the collapse of APC’s structure in Rivers State. “The governor wants the President-elect to believe his false narrative that there is no other opposition political party existing in the state,” Nwauju said, adding that the APC was focused on challenging the outcome of the March 18 elections at the Elections Petitions Tribunal.
Meanwhile, Governor Wike has declared Wednesday a public holiday and called on the people to come out in large numbers to welcome Tinubu.
It remains to be seen how the visit will be received in light of the APC’s statement dissociating itself from it.
