A truck driver, who is yet to be identified, has been rescued unconscious after his truck fell on a Toyota Camry car around the Cele-Egbe Bridge, inward Ikotun, Lagos State.
According to the Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Taofiq Adebayo, the agency’s officials rescued the driver on top of the bridge and handed him over to policemen attached to the Ejigbo Police Station.
Adebayo said the driver was transporting biscuits to a destination in the state when the tragedy occurred on Sunday.
“Operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority today (Sunday) rescued an unconscious accident victim on top of the Cele-Egbe Bridge, inward Ikotun, Lagos State,” Adebayo said.
“LASTMA Anjorin Adeola, Zebra 7 Ejigbo, who led the rescue team, confirmed that the rescued unconscious accident victim was the truck driver involved in an accident where a white six-tyre truck with number plate FFF 996 XB, loaded with biscuits fell on an unregistered blue Toyota Camry car inward Ikotun, Lagos.”
Adebayo said the General Manager of LASTMA, Bolaji Oreagba, had been extending public education and enlightenment on speed limit to motor parks, including truck/trailer garages in the state.
He urged motorists to exercise necessary caution before overtaking high-capacity buses and trucks on highways and added that speed limit signposts erected by the government must be strictly adhered to by all motorists.
