South Carolina’s governor Nikki Haley told that the man suspected of killing nine people at an African-American church in Charleston should be dead. “We will absolutely want him to have the death penalty,” she told the press, speaking about the case of suspected murderer, 21-year-old Dylan Roof.
Dylan Roof had already confessed of committing this horrible crime, telling the investigators that he wanted to incite a race war in the USA by his evil deed. The survivors of the shooting in the Charleston church recount that the killer told the African-American congregants “you rape our women, and you’re taking over our country” during his shooting spree.
However, at the vigil for Sharonda Singleton, one of church shooting victims, her children told the press that they are forgiving their mother’s killer.
“I just feel a lot of love, I’m just a little bit bitter, but I’m overwhelmed with love,” told the press her daughter Camryn Singleton. Camryn’s brother Chris Singleton added that “we forgive him [Dylan Roof] for what he has done, and there’s nothing but love from our side of the family.”
Yesterday police in Charleston, USA, announced that a white gunman opened fire on Wednesday night, June 17, at a historic black church in downtown Charleston, S.C, killing nine people before fleeing.
The New York Times reports that the Charleston police chief, Greg Mullen, at a news conference with the Mayor early Thursday, called the shooting a hate crime.
