Joanne Borgella’s first taste of fame came in 2005 after she beat out nine other plus-sized models and was crowned the first winner of “Mo’Nique’s Fat Chance.” Several years later, Borgella tried her hand at singing and auditioned for “American Idol.” She made it all the way to the into the top 12 girls category before being voted off. In October of 2013, she revealed that she had been diagnosed with a rare form of cancer that had spread to her chest. The cancer spread to her brain and Borgella passed away the following year at the age of 32.
