Citizens of the “Land of Rising Sun” enjoyed internet speeds of 10.8 Mbps in 2012, up 19 percent from the previous year. During the first quarter of 2013, the average connection speeds were 11.6 Mbps. Japan recognized the potential of the internet way back in 1996, when major companies like Fujitsu and NTT offered ISP services.
