Earlier this week some Peoples Democratic Party senators alleged that the process lacked fairness and transparency and thus converted into witch-hunting.
Osinbajo, however, dismissed the allegations as he spoke during the recent interview held in Ogun state.
The politician was quoted a saying by Vanguard:
“It is not about a probe of a past government, that’s not what this is about. We are talking about our future, we are saying that we must put in place a clear strategy going forward.
“It is not just about ensuring that people are made to pay for looting the treasury, our system of justice must be fair to ensure that anybody who does anything that is wrong is brought to account. We can’t allow impunity to continue. So it is not about the previous government, its about any form of impunity.”
Osibanjo also blasted critics saying their position was far from the truth. He assured Nigerians that anti-graft war was a genuine programme to tackle the lingering problem in the country.
It is worth recalling that one more scandal has recently broke on the matter. In the end of July it was provided by a source close to the president that Buhari had been given a list with the names of oil thieves by the US officials. The news generated many reactions, with Nigerians seeking for the punishment of the corrupt individuals.
In the continuation of the saga, another source at the US embassy, however, told a reported they were unaware of any exchange of documents between the seniors of the two countries.
As for the official first-hand information, President Buhari said his government had taken steps to identify financial institutions and countries where the looted funds had been lodged.
