Aside his children Femi and Seun and his protegee son, Dede Mabiaku who are doing his style of Afro beat while Lagbaja whose style is a deviation from Fela’s own, some contemporary musicians have been inspired by the Abami Eda or Baba 70’s style of music. Our five celebrated singers whose songs were inspired by Fela’s songs.
1. Wizkid
Wizkid’s jaiye Jaiye saw him deviating from the hip hop lane he started with to Afro beat. To drive home his arrival as an Afro pop artist, Wizkid features Femi Kuti in Jaiye Jaiye. One of Fela hit songs is Ojuelegba, Wizkid did another Ojuelegba, not a re-mix but with Afro beat flavour and so far that has been his greatest.
