It’s the nature of the industry. Just like any other person, celebrities do have their secrets, and there are times when these secrets are thrust into the public eye for scrutiny because they were stolen from the dark places that they were kept, or they were voluntarily divulged by the celebrities themselves.
There is just something about celebrities and their dark secrets. We just can’t seem to look away. Most of the revelations from big celebrity names challenged and sometimes broke our view of them. This is why we’re shocked – but just like a car crash, we can’t seem to look away. There is that inherent gravity that draws us in. If we are all going to be honest, these juicy celebrity news are our guilty pleasures. We want them to have dark secrets. We want them to be mysterious because we want to be the ones to find out what lurks behind their masks. We may be shocked, but we love it.
12. Angelina Jolie’s Double Mastectomy
Back in 2013, Angelina Jolie shocked the world by saying that she underwent a surgery to have her breasts removed as a proactive measure to prevent the occurrence of breast and ovarian cancer. Angelina Jolie further revealed that her mother died of cancer and she herself was diagnosed to have the BRCA1 gene mutation, a gene mutation that increases the likelihood of developing breast cancer to about 87% and ovarian cancer to 50%. Jolie had already had her ovaries and Fallopian tubes removed prior to her double mastectomy. Just several months after her operation, she underwent reconstructive surgery for her breasts that she said were now “beautiful.”
