5. Adekunle – Orente
Unlike his previous single before this, Orente was all originally done by Adekunle Gold, and when you sit down and think about the lyrics, you realize how wonderful this song as a whole is, even if you put aside the wonderful vocal shift he put in. As opposed to the typical love song, Orente is more about the lover that is really the best friend. It makes sense that the word Orente was gotten from his late grandmother, and it simply translate to “the loyal and beautiful girl”. In a parallel universe this would be the type of song that would break boundaries and strike gold internationally, even if they don’t understand the lyrics. Good music is its own language.
4. Harrysong – Reggae Blues
Someone once said that Nigerians love to laugh, dance, and just enjoy life. This song captures pretty much all of that. You listen to this song, and wonder how it can become such a hit, but then you listen again, and again, and before you know it, you’re joining in and singing “after the reggae play the blues”. Sometimes the simpliest things makes us the happiest. Along with Olamide, Kcee, Iyanya and Oreze, Reggae Blues is a song that cuts across all age groups, and social classes, and it’s the biggest reason it cuts our top 5. Play it in Lekki, or Karu, Nsukka or Kafanchan, everyone will still dance and sing along. Even your boo get a boo…. A boo, A boo.
