3. Korede Bello – Godwin
“I don get alert, Godwin”. That might be the most popular entry line of a song in the past 5 years, and it set the tone for one of the best songs of 2015. Korede Bello and Don Jazzy teamed up to give Nigerians the one song that could be played anywhere, and on any occasion. School, wedding, party, church, election campaign. It doesn’t really matter really, the song pretty applies to every celebratory scenario. The message is wonderful, the production from Don Jazzy is outstanding, and the video embodied everything else about the song. When you gramdma and your 5 year old cousin are dancing to the song, and singing along, you know it’s a pop song that has really hit it big.
2. WizKid – Ojuelegba Remix ft. Drake & Skepta
When it comes to being the most recognized Nigerian name in music, WizKid is the standout artist in 2o15. The debate was officially shutdown when Drake decided to lay a verse on WizKid’s hit, Ojuelegba. Does that make the song the best in 2015? You can make an argument for that. Ojuelegba, featured on WizKid’s sophomore album, Ayo, was already a hit in its own right, and having a remix with Skepta and Drake on it turned it into a mega international hit. Hey, when everyone in Nigeria is feeling your tune, and the likes of Kylie Jenner, Alica Keys, and Swizz Beatz are dancing to it, then you can’t put say you’ve put together a very very outstanding tune.
